The “India Business Forum” on January 19, 2015, organized by the Indian Consulate General in Frankfurt am Main, aimed to present the “Make in India” campaign. The event, which was led by Werner Heesen, Head of Human Resources & Organization at Dr. Wamser + Batra GmbH, which was moderated, also served as an exchange between German business representatives.
Consul General Raveesh Kumar began the event with an overview of the current economic policy measures of the new Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The focus of the “Make in India” campaign is to improve investment conditions for foreign investors. Some examples:
- Reduction of bureaucratic obstacles, ie “streamlining” of approval and registration processes
- Reducing corruption
- Modernization and expansion of the infrastructure
- Improving intellectual property protection
The willingness for change is there, even if “India certainly still has a long and rocky road ahead of it,” said Dr. Johannes Wamser, managing director of Dr. Wamser + Batra GmbH.
In the subsequent panel discussion, led by Werner Heesen, Head of Human Resources & Organization at Dr. Wamser + Batra GmbH, representatives of the Central Association of the German Electrical Industry, Lapp Kabel AG and Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. KGaA took part. The everyday challenges for German companies in India were discussed in detail. “In particular, the problem of leadership and control in India was identified by the three business representatives as a daily challenge,” said Heesen. “In India, success and failure seem to depend largely on the question of the right processes and organization as well as the management and control by the German parent company.”
