German medium-sized companies expect positive business development in India in the future despite the difficult market environment

The current India hype surrounding the “Make in India” campaign is not noticeable in German medium-sized businesses at the moment. The economic reality on the growth market is perceived by companies to be much harsher than the rumored figures suggest.

This is the result of the first public survey on the economic mood of German exporters and investors in India, which we conducted in March 2017. We surveyed around 150 medium-sized companies from Germany that are currently doing business in India.

According to their own information, two out of three companies in India see themselves on a growth path and are recording (slightly) increasing sales figures. However, only just one in three companies comes close to the sales goals they have set themselves. The majority of companies even miss this by a significant margin.
