The Spanish company Applus+ has been awarded the contract to build and operate automated testing stations for trucks in India - a crucial step towards greater road safety and compliance with environmental regulations in the Indian state of Assam.

Our client, Barcelona-based testing, inspection and certification company Applus+ Services SA, has achieved a breakthrough in the Indian market with an agreement to set up four Automated Test Stations (ATS) in the state of Assam.

The ATS projects are operated within the framework of a public-private partnership (PPP) and the BOOT model (Built, Own, Operate and Transfer). It is a collaboration between Assam State Transport Corporation, State Government of Assam and ITEUVE India Pvt. Ltd. in a consortium with Applus+ ITEUVE Technology SLU

The agreement was signed by Mr. Rahul Chandra Das, Managing Director, Assam State Transport Corporation, and Mr. Hans-Jürgen Schimpgen, Vice President of Applus+ Automotive and Director of ITEUVE India Pvt. Ltd. signed in October 2023.

The project is the first of its kind in India under a public-private partnership (PPP) and aims to pave the way for a safe and clean future for the state. At its core, this project aims to introduce automated, state-of-the-art vehicle fitness testing and ensure safer roads with a minimum of manual intervention.

In line with this objective, these ATS centers will primarily enhance road safety by accurately assessing the roadworthiness of vehicles based on a comprehensive set of safety parameters. State-of-the-art automated testing equipment is used, which is seamlessly based on international best practices. This advanced, technology-enabled approach is central to improving the condition of trucks and reducing traffic accidents caused by vehicle malfunctions.

In addition, these ATS centers will play an important role in addressing environmental issues related to vehicle emissions. They will carefully monitor and control air pollution caused by vehicles, thereby contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment, in keeping with Assam's commitment to environmental friendliness.
