During their trip to India, the Chancellor, key cabinet members and company representatives are trying to reduce Germany’s dependence on China.”
Our managing director Mike D. Batra in an interview with the taz on October 24.10.2024, XNUMX: German-Indian relations: With large contingent to Delhi | taz.de
Common interests among professionals and climate policy
With the current large German contingent, the management consultant sees Mike D Batra the chance that India will become more of a focus in Germany. "Some medium-sized companies have been active in India for a long time; in total there are almost 2.000 companies in the country," he says.
Nevertheless, he sees a need to catch up and the potential is great: "India was neglected for a long time." But a lot has changed: "More Indian manufacturers can deliver consistently better quality, which was different five to ten years ago." In addition, his customers in Germany are sometimes unable to find workers and it is not just a matter of cheaper wages or energy costs. It is therefore not surprising that Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) is also traveling with him.
"20 years ago, German companies' connections to India were mainly limited to the IT sector and foundries," says Batra. Now electronics production, automotive supplies, mechanical engineering and raw materials are becoming more interesting."
Advisor: Geopolitics has made India more interesting
"India's economy is growing steadily at a rate of six to seven percent, and the geopolitical situation has also put India in the spotlight," says Batra, who grew up in Germany and India. But anyone who wants to be successful in India must have stamina and an understanding of the market there: "Those who develop new products locally for emerging countries and adapt to the domestic market have the best chance of success."
