Skilled Worker Strategy Germany – India: Find nursing professionals for your clinic or nursing home

Germany has finally introduced comprehensive programs and strategies to recruit Indian professionals to alleviate the labor shortage in key sectors such as healthcare, IT and engineering [see bmas.de “Cabinet approves skilled labor strategy for India of 16.10.2024 October XNUMX].

Have courage. Now.

As a leading consulting and recruitment company with offices in Germany and India, we at WB are at the forefront of these developments. We are already successfully supporting companies and clinics in attracting qualified talent from India for their specific needs, and this has been going on for some time now [Link to personnel recruitment WB].

Our advantages: We do not recruit from any number of third countries, but specifically from India because we know our way around there. We offer security that other (Indian) recruiters cannot offer. The specialists recruited from our previous projects have a below-average drop-out or fluctuation rate. Our customers therefore benefit from stable personnel structures and more targeted developments in the development of Indian nursing specialists. We provide our customers and the specialists with full support in this, i.e. from examining implementation options, recruitment, setting up retention programs and even intercultural "building bridges".

Why India as a partner?

Germany has traditionally established itself as an attractive destination for skilled workers from all over the world, but demographic developments (the meridian age of the German population is 45,1 years) and the growing shortage of skilled workers require further innovative solutions. At the same time, India has an extremely young population with an average age of 28,1 years, which has limited career opportunities due to the oversupply of qualified workers at home. By 2030, around 84 million job seekers will flood into the Indian labor market.

“The influx of Indian skilled workers is already a success story for our country and we are continuing this with over 30 measures as part of the skilled worker strategy,” said Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil.

Since 2020, the number of Indians employed in Germany who are subject to social insurance contributions has already doubled. As of February 2024, there were already 137.000 Indians in the German labor market, more than half of whom work in qualified specialist or expert jobs, which is clearly demonstrated by their average gross income of EUR 5.400 per month (as of December 2023). Their generally very good knowledge of English is certainly helpful for their successful entry into the European labor market.

There is therefore a "triple win situation" for both Germany and India: Germany gains urgently needed skilled workers and thus maintains its competitiveness on the global market. India benefits from remittances (125 billion US dollars in 2023 = 3,5% of Indian GDP) from those working abroad to their Indian families at home and from the transfer of know-how, while the Indian skilled workers themselves gain new career prospects.

German programs for skilled labor migration

As part of the newly adopted measures, the Federal Government has visa quotas for skilled workers from India increased significantly to 90.000 per year.

By introducing a digital visa system The application process for Indian job seekers is accelerated. In addition, the “chancenkarte“, a points system that focuses not only on professional qualifications but also on the German language skills and experience of job seekers. Accordingly, the opportunities for learning German through the Goethe Institutes in India are being expanded and the presence of the Federal Employment Agency in India is being strengthened. The procedure for recognition of foreign Professional qualifications The aim of all these measures is to facilitate the influx of qualified workers.

Likewise, Indian studentswho already live and study in Germany are more actively supported in their integration into the German job market. The largest foreign group is currently around 49.000 Indian students studying at German universities, 80% of whom are studying master's courses with a clear focus on the so-called STEM subjects. After 5 years, more than half of them still remain in Germany.
