While the Indian government has not put forward any significant economic stimulus packages or anything similar in recent weeks, things are now moving forward: the states of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have announced in the last two days that they will encourage investors to build new production facilities in their states. The plan is to temporarily suspend bureaucratic requirements for a period of around three years. Newly built factories will be exempt from all labor laws for a period of 3 days (only the “Minimum Wages Act”, the “Industrial Safety Rules” and the “Employees' Compensation Act” will remain in force).

Gujarat is going even further and has announced that it will support the construction of new factories and the acquisition of land by expediting the processing of all applications (within 7 to 15 days).

As an explicit goal, the states also want to address companies that plan to relocate production activities from China.
