Crisis management expert
expert for
Over the last few decades, Christian Altmann's leadership positions at Lufthansa have taken him to the most important markets in Asia and Europe. As managing director and regional director, he was responsible for the group across national borders between Russia and New Zealand and, in addition to the passenger area, he also managed the logistics and flight handling areas. His focus was on dealing with operational crises such as airport closures, airline accidents or strikes in international crisis teams as well as with local employees.
“Nobody can completely avoid crises these days. The challenges in India may be different than in Russia or Indonesia. Nevertheless, in all markets it is important to deal with it as skillfully as possible and without major damage to the company. It is not so important to what extent the management, the employees or the partners in the situation bear responsibility for the situation. I believe that everyone involved brings valuable experience and can contribute a perspective. It is important to be connectable and communicatively sensitive in all directions in order to develop suitable solutions.”
Through his activities in Russia, India, the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore, he has a good network of local authorities and associations. As managing director of joint ventures in these markets, he has made companies profitable through restructuring and process optimization in consultation with employees and local partners. His experience was supplemented as a member of the board of the German-Singapore Chamber of Commerce and as head of the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce Abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia.
